On the 15th February 2003 a series of demonstrations held across New Zealand against the impending invasion kicked off a coordinated wave of demonstrations which would become one of the largest international protests in history. A month later, on the morning of the 20th March, combat troops from the US, UK, Australia, and Poland began streaming into Iraq. The invasion would open one of the bloodiest chapters in one of the deadliest conflicts of the 21st century.

In this talk Otago Socialist Society member Tyler West will discuss the turn of the century politics in New Zealand, mass violence in post-Cold War America, the 9/11 terror attacks, the anti-war movement in New Zealand and abroad, and the long shadow of the War on Terror which stretches over us today.
